I wish we could all be California girls...

For my birthday this year, David surprised me with a trip to California to go to Knott's Berry Farm and hang out with his family for a long weekend. I suspected that we were headed out of town when he made me take Friday and Monday off of work and thought that it would be to California, but it wasn't until I saw a post-it note stating "take time off work to catch flight to California" that I knew for sure. I had been teasing him for weeks that I knew where we were going, but I didn't really, so he was so mad when I read the post-it aloud to him and said "ha! Caught ya". Poor guy is the absolute WORST at keeping a secret. He swore his and my family to secrecy but then went ahead and told me where we were going a week and half early...and even made me open the gift he got me that night because he couldn't wait another second! It's nice to know that I never have to worry about him lying to me because he wouldn't last a day! :)
On Friday, he rode bikes around Riverside and then had lunch at In-N-Out burger, animal style of course. Yummy!-- I can NOT wait until it comes to Murray this summer ( I DON'T care if it's a "california" thing). Then we hung out for awhile before going to play miniature golf at Castle Park--where there is nothing miniature about that place. I won because I was the Birthday girl and had to keep David in his place. We then proceeded to take a picture in those little photo booths, only to be conned out of 5 bucks and the only thing we had to show for it was a lousy photo of some Hungarian girl and her friend.
Proof that I got a hole-in-one

Teri made beef casserole, which is an absolute must in that house. David literally about DIES waiting to get some of that casserole because he only gets in when he goes home. Neil and Monica also came over and got me my own first NEW skateboard. Cassie made me the cutest Build-a-Bear panda with a pink tutu (because I LOVE pink, in case you didn't know). Dave and Teri got me 3 tickets to Knotts Berry farm so that David, me, and Cassie could go the next day. It was the most perfect day and birthday...complete with pink cake even! After the party, we just hung out and played Killer Bunnies, this crazy card game that Neil and Monica brought over. I loved it but David found it perplexing.
Watch out! They're rabbid

This game is weird

Ummm...pink cake and ice cream
On Saturday, we went to Knott's and had the best time. I LOVED it so much but could do without going on the backwards one again! I MADE David take me to get some of Mrs. Knott's famous fried chicken because I had seen in about 3 times on GoodEats on the TV and have wanted to try it ever since. And we also were sure to get a famous funnel cake--which was as good as advertised!

Sunday we went to the beach with David's parents & Susan and Nelson (their awesome family friends) to ride beach cruisers along the sand. This time I didn't have to ride the bike with the pedal that falls off so it was the best! Poor David wasn't quite as lucky. :) Later that night, Neil and Monica came back over and we played Idiot, another card game and watched Cash Cab (I love that show so much and since we don't have TV, I went CRAZY for watching it). Monday we just had a relaxing day and then had to go to LA to go home at night. I was really sad to leave, but was just happy to get away for a weekend. I have the absolute best husband, who spoils me to death. Thank you David for making my birthday so amazing.

Great....now I have to think of something fabulous for May 20th! :)

I'm totally jealous of your fun weekend (but in a good way)! David could teach Ryan a thing or two about birthday presents...
